Assamese or Asamiya is an eastern Indo-Aryan Language which is mainly use to speak in State of Assam in North East India. It is also spoken in some parts of Arunachal Pradesh and other northeast Indian states. Assamese and Nagamese language based on Creole language which is widely used in Nagaland and some parts of Assam. The official language of Assam is Assamese and it is spoken by about 20 million people in India. The sister language of Assamese are (Maithili, Bengali, and Oriya) developed from Magadhi Prakrit. The Assamese alphabet that developed from the Gupta alphabet around 1200 AD and which closely resembles the Mithilakshar and Bengali alphabets.
There are not many more great linguistic working in Assamese language. But, among modern Indian languages, some of the early scientific work on linguistics was on Assamese. Kaviraja Madhava Kandali (14th century) was an Assamese renowned poet of India, notable for the earliest rendering of the Valmiki Ramayana into Assamese verse (Saptakanda Ramayana). Apart from the Assamese language, its literature is also very ancient and rich. Hema Saraswati who was one of the renowned and oldest Assamese writer wrote the most popular texts "Prahlada Charita" towards the end of the 13th century AD.
The Assamese script has 41 consonants and 11 vowels. These are similar to the Devnagari. The Assamese script has total 52 characters including 41 consonants and 11 vowels.
