Client’s Requirement:
The client wanted to outsource their online and offline magazine translation and DTP requirements to a solo vendor instead of many vendors. Their priority was to partner with the best linguistic agency that could offer Translation, Editing, Desktop Publishing (DTP), and Linguistic Sign-Off (LSO) while adhering to tight deadlines.
After an in-depth review of the client’s requirements, we decided to demonstrate our adaptability with a free trial.
We shortlisted a team of experienced DTP experts and scheduled a meeting with the client. The aim of the meeting was to understand specific expectations of the final output.
Guidelines from Client:
- The client instructed us to use native and expert linguists for the four target languages: Sanskrit, Sindhi, Manipuri, and Mizo.
- They also requested top-tier technical DTP professionals who are experienced in Adobe Illustrator.
Challenges
- One pressing challenge we faced was to design, align, and refurbish 200 pages to make them look good in both offline and online versions.
- With a tight deadline and multiple target languages, we had to be careful while performing the initial steps of translation.
- The biggest challenge was managing spacing and formatting. Each of the four languages has a distinct written script, which needed constant text adjustments to appear natural.
Our Solutions
- We quickly grouped ourselves by selecting suitable linguists according to the target languages. We even opted for DTP experts to provide extra guidance during the project.
- Next, we created a glossary of complex terms and prepared ourselves for simultaneous translations into the target language.
- After completion of the preliminary translation, we conducted an initial review using different but equally skilled linguists. They rectified errors that had occurred during the translation process.
- After the first round of editing, our DTP experts prepared the translated files in Adobe Illustrator.
- We used the latest version of Adobe Illustrator to specifically meet our client’s requirements. Our DTP operators masterfully addressed spacing issues and created aesthetic results suitable for both online and offline platforms.
- After the creation of the initial layout of the magazine in all four languages, we sent all the content for review to separate linguists and operators.
- They reviewed the content thoroughly and made it ready for delivery.
The Result
We successfully completed the DTP project within the given deadline. Our meticulous approach maintained linguistic accuracy and proper design of both online and offline magazines.
The client was delighted with the results, opening avenues for future collaborations.
